When I used to be a SysOp in the mid 1990's for my high school's BBS, Exitilus was a hot cookie. After I left high school, I dropped out of the BBS bracket until a dead day at my college job and I decided to see if Exitilus was still around. It still was, but it was 3.17 now, and a far cry from what I was used to. Last month, I decided to look around again, only to find that Exitilus was still drifting into obsoleteness.

Last week while doing the Facebook thing, a friend invited me to join the Legend of the Green Dragon application, and it got me thinking... Why can't this be done for Exitilus? And the answer is, it can be done. At first I thought someone else MUST already be working on this. I searched around. What I found was archived distress from fans who loved a game that was heading straight for the waste basket.

Well, I'm stepping in.

Exitilus Online will be an adaption (@ best; there's no direct source to work with) of Exitilus 2.05 by Tao Ge written in PHP/MySQL. I am also hoping to use a generous serving of AJAX along the way to aid in flow, and have adopted jQuery as the JavaScript framework upon which the beast will rest. That said, this will be a huge task. If anyone would like to be involved with the project that has a programming background, get in touch with me and I'll see what you can do.

I will also be looking for some designers and/or illustrators to get involved with the project sooner or later. While I would love it if ANSI art translated perfectly to large resolution screens, this has not been my experience so far Wink I want Exitilus Online to look as good as the original, only as if the original had been released in 2008 and not 1996! I suck at art. You know what I mean. :-p

I think it's about time Exitilus gets back in the picture. I love this game too much to see it go.

Cheers!

Major thanks to Doug for getting me outfitted with a copy of Exitilus 2.05 and getting it working. I've begun collecting the information that will drive EO's development.

Howdy again.

I've set up a discussion forum for Exitilus Online. It'll cover aspects ranging from game balancing to introducing new ideas to remembering the old days.

Come on over: http://exitilusonline.com/forum/
